Research: What kind of danger that the stray animals face every day

As we know that if an area has too many stray animals, they will be caught to the shelter and every shelter has a limited area for the stray animals, so if the amount of the animals is over limit, they will be euthanized even though they are healthy and no sick or untreatable

As you can see there are 60000 animals in public shelter in last years and the government has to invest over 5 million dollars to increase the shelter capacity.

Therefore, The no-kill policy has been launched by this year in February.

So How to reduce stray animals in Taiwan, some of the shelters carry out the TNR Policy and don’t buy but adopt policy

Purpose of the competition:

Encourage International creative design exchange, develop creative design talents, express the international image of Taiwan attaching great importance to creative design, and established the international design status of Taiwan.

I also found out a very serious news from Taiwan, which is a director of an animal shelter commits suicide after euthanizing too many dogs, which I think we should step into their shoes, but not only consider the feeling of the owner.

Besides that, I have watched this video called 12 Days of stray animals in Taiwan from youtube, which will make me more understand their work in the shelters, and why 12 days? Because the amount of the stray animals will be euthanized if no one adopts them within 12 days, the owner of the shelter will give some talks for the school children, which he thinks this is a more effective way to let the children influence the adults, better than the adults influence the children. Another method is open a page for the people who decide to abandon their pet, they should write down the information of the pet and the reason of abandon to let the adopter understand more, so the stuff will give 30 days to the owner to consider clearly.

Challenge of RESEARCH

The challenge of the research in this project is that I can't really go to Taiwan and research what is the lifestyle of the stray animals there.

But what I can do in my own country is, I can observe the stray cats in SS15, like their lifestyle in the wet market and the environment of the alley.

MONGA Culture

in Taiwan

Monga is an old district of Taipei, which possesses with a lot of temples.

Why I choose Monga culture as the theme of my design, because inspired by this Taiwanese movie called Monga and it’s talking about the 80s era of this place, the gangster, youth and loyalty, which I think is quite similar to the lifestyle of stray animals, like they have to fight for food or grab others domain, and there are also a lot of temples in this place, which seems like they need someone to protect them.

It is hard to distinguish the difference between China and Taiwan. Hence, what I can do is watch the Taiwan's movie and find out their own culture.

Hence, I should refer to the pattern of the clothes, building in the movie, which may be used in the design of the project.

Finally, I found out that their patterns and colours are combined with Taiwanese aborigines' culture and some Japanese’s culture.

Solution:

The story of the mobile game is talking about the responsibility of the stuff in the shelter and giving some jobs to the stray animals instead of euthanizing them. Jobs for stray animals such as patrol dog, cat cafe, guide dog and even doctor.

Based on the online research, people use some animals to heal themselves. You can use animals such as dogs and cats. Dogs/cats healing can improve your heal thy status. Some cats can smell if you are suffering from cancer. Others can knead their paws for some minutes and spot where you are having some pain. The dogs can see the auras that surround your body. This one will help them to detect some diseases from your body.The dogs and cats can reduce the start of the arousal. This some will help you to decrease your blood pressure. They keep you company from staying alone.

Refer to the pattern of the clothes and the building in the movie. Make them as the name tag or the clothes for the stray animals.

Refer to the image of cat's and dog's breed on the Internet.

At the beginning, I'm just following the real appearance of the breeds with my drawing style.

However, I feel the illustration style is too common like everyone can search this style in any mobile game or website.

Therefore, I decided to personalize the illustration, make them rounded, like they are easily rolling to somewhere else just like a ball (can be analyzed as the lifestyle of the stray animals, which they have no permanent place to stay).

Basically, this mobile game includes the puzzle and simulation mode, something like Candy Crush, but the difference is the money that you earned in the puzzle game can be used to upgrade your shelter and even unlock the other maps, like the cat cafe, guide dog center, police station, and clinic, which provide some jobs for the stray animals.

The other game modes:

There are also provide some helping tools in the puzzle game if you are stuck in the same level.
Every time when you rescue a new stray cat/dog, they will be your collection.
If the strays are over the amount, some of them will be euthanized, so make sure every stray is in a good condition to increase the chance of adopting. (within 12 days)

Illustrating the interface design

I have tried using different typeface and colours to bring out the cuteness of the game. Using the Comfortaa, a rounded font which is neat and suits with the design.

I have also used the transition in the colours to increase the dimensional feeling.
